5 Marketing Tips How To Attract Your Dream Client

We have lived through the pain of not being able to attract the right people to our business, in the early days we would often put so much energy into attracting anyone (we were desperate for business) we would often attract difficult clients; it was impossible to keep them happy! They had high demands, even higher expectations and clearly wanted a bargain; it was frustrating, embarrassing and didn’t inspire much confidence in the future of B&F.

“We soon came to realise that it’s impossible to appeal to the masses, you will never win if your business offers a “one size fits all.”

Once we learnt this it was like the lights had been switched on! (Hallelujah!) We knew we needed to go niche, stand out and only appeal to a certain type of dream customer; one that shared the same beliefs as us, recognised our values and trusted our expertise.Since starting our small business we’ve had to clue ourselves upon the power of marketing (the right way). We were old-fashioned with our original strategy, attempting to trade money for attention.

Let us save you some time, this medieval method doesn't work!

“The market is saturated with an average product being sold to an average audience.”

We are here to share our top tips on how to attract the best people for your small business, customers & clients who are willing to invest, and better still, believe in your purpose and share your values.

5 Marketing Tips How To Attract Your Dream Client

  1. Know Who They Are

You can’t attract them if you don’t know who they are. What do they do? How old are they? What do they believe in? What do they struggle with, want, or need? The better you understand them, the easier it is to build a connection with them. Your business is here to solve a problem for your client or customer, once you fully understand that and know what obstacles they face, you can go about helping them and offer a solution.

Knowing who your tribe is will help your business to personalise messaging specifically to them, attracting your target market. Your targeted audience is much more likely to buy from you and become loyal followers for the duration of your brand’s growth, they feel invested in your brand story and will become brand advocates, convincing their friends and family to buy your products or services as well.

2. Become A Leader

Whatever it is that you sell, whether it’s a service or product, you need to find a way to build a community around it. We all want to be a part of something bigger, we all want to belong. Your target market needs to feel a connection to what you sell and the best way to do this is to find something worth changing and begin to build a following that believes in the same values as you.

Example: We use Instagram to build a community of like minded people. We have built an authentic connection with our followers because we all have the same beliefs; a large proportion of our followers are living a conscious life. Our values are aligned and over time this has created a movement; attracting more like-minded people to our page through a growing community and purpose.

3. Refuse To Settle For Average

To attract the right people you need to put in the elbow grease. Attracting your dream client/customers takes time, you need to show up every day for your community, you need to not only share content but you need to engage with them, become a reliable source of information, educate them and give them the knowledge that’s going to make their life easier and make it free!

Ask yourself “will my community miss me if I don’t show up today?” If the answer is yes then you are doing an amazing job. Continue to do this day after day and you will attract your dream customers from the content you put out, stories you tell, and services/products you offer.

4. Let Your Community Become Your Biggest Marketers

Have you heard of Kevin Kelly? He wrote an amazing article called 1000 true fans. You can watch a summarized version of it here but basically, he shares a technique on how to live a comfortable life doing what you love. You don’t need to be famous or have a huge following, you just need 1000 true fans. This can be quite overwhelming when you first start a business so think of it as 10. Just concentrate on getting 10 true fans. True fans are people who will buy anything you sell, tell their friends about you, and follow everything you do, they are your business’s best marketers!

Example: 30% of our clients we get are from referrals. Some of the referrals we get are from people that have never been our clients, but they follow us on Instagram and are a part of our community. They might not need our services, but they truly believe in what we do and love to be a part of it, they are true fans and in turn market our business for us freely to their friends and family.

5. Tell A Great Brand Story

What’s your story? Don’t underestimate the power of a great brand story. The amazing thing about small businesses is that you have a connection to the person behind the business, there is a personal story there that is much more interesting to follow than a faceless company. Share everything! It might take some time to get used to but people want to see you, how you live, work and everything in between.

Example: For the first 12 months in Betsy & Francis we shared the odd photo of us on our page but we didn’t appear on stories...we didn’t like talking to the camera and were worried what people would think. But we soon realised that we have our own superpower in business and we weren’t even using it! The superpower is that nobody is like us, we all have our own unique story, personality, and life to share with our audience. This personal story drives engagement, attracts your tribe, and allows people to relate to you.

Since sharing our lives with our online community we have grown very quickly in terms of increased business from ideal clients, our referrals have doubled and we get much more engagement online. Hot tip: what are your three biggest values? Ours are marketing, sustainability, and community - If you can always relate back to one of your three values with the content you put out online or the stories you tell, you will always remain on brand and consistent with your message
