5 Easy Ways To Grow A Small Business That Sells

The last couple of years have challenged us all enormously, the crisis has hijacked the thoughts and lives of each and every one of us. It’s been a tough time, but it isn’t without opportunity. An opportunity to make the best of a bad situation, to use this precious time to break away from the hamster wheel, slow down, reconnect with our loved ones and focus our time on growth and innovation.

When it comes to marketing your small business during a pandemic, the word awkward comes to mind - we feel exactly the same. However, now more than ever you need to be working on improving and selling your brand, you need to be nimble and evolve with this crisis. You need to do your best to ensure that your incredible small business continues to thrive or at the very least survive until normal life resumes, and the only way to do that is to use this time to create, grow and innovate your brand because goodness knows, we have the time!

Like all things in life, this will pass, and when it does, we will come out of this with a newfound love for life, for each other, our community, and our business. Plenty of good can come from this, let your business be one of them. Here are 5 ways in which you can use this time to strengthen and sell your brand.

  1. Sell Your Brand Story

Storytelling is the most powerful tool of all.

Storytelling is the most powerful tool of all.

Storytelling is the most powerful tool of all.

If you’re going to take anything away from this, it’s this! We have absolutely no doubt that we owe our small businesses’ success to the ability to share our brand story with the world.

Now, we’d like to think we have a talent for small business marketing, but so do the other 5 million marketers out there, the only thing that was going to make us stand out was our story. Think about it, now more than ever your small business needs to be seen and the best way you can do this is by sharing your story with the world. You. Will. Have. No. Competition. Ever!

Watch this fab video by TEDx called “The magical science of storytelling” to get a better understanding of all the incredible things brand storytelling can do.

2. Create Free Valuable Content

Your small business needs to be seen as a helpful resource for your dream client/customer. The quickest way to gain loyal customers is to solve their problems in the form of free valuable content.

We are busy folk. We are inundated with information every second of every day, so getting dream client/customer’s attention is bloody impossible if you don’t go about it the clever way.

The clever way is to solve problems for your audience.

Create content that directly speaks to their pain points and educate them so that they can buy from you (notice the title of this blog? This is one of our dream clients’ pain points, we are solving it for them by providing free valuable content).

By doing this you will not only gain their trust, but they will come to rely on you as a trusted resource, and when they need your product/service, you will be top of mind.

3. Create A Beautiful & Cohesive Brand

The marketplace is saturated, your brand needs to look the part if it’s going to turn heads and open wallets. With brands, we aren’t just buying a product/service anymore, we are using the brand as a means of self-expression.

“The brands we buy into make a statement about who we are and who we want to be.”

We become emotionally attached to them, using them as part of our self-image. This is why it’s never been more important to build a brand identity to authentically represent your business.

4. Speak Directly To Your Dream Customer

Don’t spray and pray when it comes to attracting customers. You need to speak directly to your dream customer; the customers who are most willing to buy from you.

Think of it a bit like a date. Imagine if you were on a first date and at the end of the night the person proposed to you, would you say yes? Our bet is that you would run for the hills. It’s the same with marketing. You need to let them get to know you, trust you and like you before they are willing to buy from you.

5. Create A Small Business Marketing Strategy

This is not a “pop up a quick ad and wait for the sales to come flooding in” kind of marketing. Digital marketing is hard, you need to be everywhere, all the time, repeatedly. As I mentioned earlier, we are inundated with information, your audience needs to see your business several time before they even register that you exist.

You then have to continue to bring them down the sales funnel. You need to figure out who your dream customer is and where she spends her time. Once you know this, you can be there, constantly. Don’t get complacent if one platform works for you, you need to be across multiple platforms, analytics change constantly so you need to remain nimble and market yourself in as many places as you can, you never know when things might change and you’re left in the lurch.

Remember when Instagram went down earlier this year, everyone who solely relied on Instagram for sales began to panic.

We use Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook ads, and Email Marketing to get our name out there.

let’s round it up

Let’s use this time to reconnect with our loved ones, embrace a slower way of life and use this precious time to see new opportunities, to grow and innovate ourselves so that when things get back to normal, your small business is ready and raring to go.
